Caritas Uganda was started around 1958 for purpose of coordinating the Catholic Church’s mission of charity in Uganda, but became fully functional only in early 1970s, with initial projects targeting refugees from Rwanda who had fled civil unrest in their country and settled in Nakivale refugee camp in western Uganda.
